Ingredients

  • 5 large cooking apples
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 cup light molasses
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon double acting baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk

Preparation

Peel, core, and thinly slice apples. In a large bowl toss apples lightly with sugar, cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon salt.

Spoon mixture into TEFAL round layer pan. In a small TEFAL saucepan, over low heat, melt butter.

Remove from heat, stir in molasses and water. Pour this sauce over apple mixture.

Preheat oven to 180°C. In a medium bowl mix flour, baking powder, and 3/4 teaspoon salt. Stir in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in milk just until flour is moist. Drop heaping tablespoonfuls in 8 or 9 mounds on apple mixture.

Bake 35 - 40 minutes or until crust is golden and apples are tender.

To serve, break up crust with spoon and stir into apple mixture.
